Neighborhood Resources
Who to call and where to look for everyday city services and outages.
Emergencies and Police
- Emergency: call 911
- Police non-emergency: 919-560-4600, for things like barking dogs, loud music, vandalism, or a burglary that happened hours or days ago. When to use this number
Trash and Recycling (Trash Day: Monday)
Trash day is Monday. Recycling is every other Monday. Holiday weeks can change this, so check your dates with the city.
- Find your collection dates: look up your address, get reminders, or print a calendar
- Bulky item pickup: for furniture and appliances. It’s by request only, and one pickup a week of up to 3 items is free.
- Yard waste: a paid subscription from the city
The city won’t pick up some items at the curb, including tires, electronics, and lumber. Those go to the city dump. The bulky item page has the full list.
City Dump
The city’s Waste Disposal and Recycling Center is open to Durham residents. The yard waste and household hazardous waste drop-offs are at the same location.
- Address: 2115 East Club Boulevard
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to noon. Arrive at least 15 minutes before closing.
- Payment: credit or debit card only, no cash. Most trash loads have a fee.
- Fees, rules, and what’s accepted: check here before you go, since hours can change
